WEATHERVANE

lined against the wall in folded envelopes
are letters i once thought contained the truth
saved so carefully preserved for future use
when read aloud the words leave hollow sounds
so i won't read them anymore
they've got no bearing on me now

good to hear from you the one you claim to miss
has now become a face among the crowd
i'll take your one-way street but only for so long
before i turn around and just stay home
not gonna orbit anymore
you've got no bearing on me now

if i had a weathervane i'd find a way to take the pain
but you would never figure out where you went wrong
i'd take you whether vain or humble
watch the ground around you crumble
i won't wake you up before i'm gone

'cause the months that you were gone
and the way you put me on
have taught me not to value this too much
would it have been so hard to keep in touch?
would it have been so hard to keep in touch?

i could light a fire of letters and remains
and turn my back just like you did to me
but killing living things is something i can't do
so if this dies i leave it up to you
i'll save your letters after all
but the hold they had on me is gone

if i had a weathervane i'd find a way to take the pain
but you would never figure out where you went wrong
i'd take you whether vain or humble
watch the ground around you crumble
i won't wake you up before i'm gone
